Then I looked at Wire ( ) it seems to check all boxes, but self-hosting it seems really complicate (I have near to no experience with Ansible and Kubernetes) and requirements are huge (17 VM on 3 different physical hosts, massive requirements for RAM and disks, currently it significates a lot for us) and I’m not sure client is free even if we are self-hosting our server (if you say me it’s free, it could become a good point for this solution) So I looked at other clients like Signal ( ), but it uses a third party server (and self-hosting a signal server means that you have to modify/recompile app to use your own server, and that is a too big investment for us) Free (As we are not that many, my company is not willing to pay)Īs we already have an XMPP server, I looked at XMPP client working on MacOS, but I found none that are working with end-to-end encryption (only Pidgin, but it seems abandoned too on MacOS) No chat history stored on server (even if it’s encrypted, that’s the most difficult criteria to find) Native/easy end-to-end encryption (that was the main advantage of Adium) I’m asking here because I looked at many XMPP client but found none that respect all our criteria so we are looking at self-hosted solution. For internal chat, we are currently using Adium but it seems to be not maintained now, so we are seeking an alternative to it. I’m currently in a company where we are using MacOS.
